Blue Poof Rack

Yet another interesting thing you can do with PVC and glue.

Over the Christmas break I took the boy camping on the back of the DR200. Fun was had, but lack of space made the ride in and out a little cramped. What I needed was some sort of rack or platform at the back so that I could shift some of the gear a foot back, clear some seat space.

I followed a link a few weeks ago to a rather intriguing how-to by the equally intriguingly-named Blue Poof, detailing construction of a light, cheap, almost disposable bike rack, using PVC pressure pipe. It's not much of a rack, and I wouldn't expect round-the-world robustness from it, but it costs very little, weighs very little and should be exactly what I need to take the boy camping again this weekend.

Ms Poof kindly replied to my question last week as to how she'd got on with her rack, and I only hope that mine holds up as well. Even though I never got to tweak her original design at all, it was still a fun way to spend an hour on a Saturday afternoon, without spending too much cash -- about $25 I reckon. Now to build myself one of those Pepsi can stoves...
