Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition

Don't. I wish I hadn't.
I gave it some time before I updated my netbook from UNE 10.04 to 10.10. I expected some teething problems. I gave it some time, updating fairly regularly, to see if the situation improved.
Nope.
Evolution seems to have slowed to a glacial pace, especially throwing new windows. The screensaver started locking up, and it throws a GTK error every time I unlock it. Rhythmbox has degraded to the point that the UI just hangs. Chrome still has a problem where it sometimes repaints only half of a frame. Half of the apps I use, many the defaults, still don't interact well with Unity's new dock/ task bar, top menu bar and widget/ status dock. For that matter, neither do I.
Empathy stopped working today. This weekend I'll be backing up my home directory, nuking my netbook's harddrive and installing UNE 10.04.
Yeah, this is the Linux desktop experience I remember.
